Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient
(IOP Program)

Group Reading Together

GPW Psychiatry’s Intensive Outpatient Program is built for patients who need more than basic symptom management. Our program specializes in dual diagnosis care, treating mental health and substance use concerns together.

Not Just Stabilization. Focused on Resolution.

Our IOP is designed to address the deeper issues driving symptoms, not just the symptoms themselves. With a dedicated trauma-focused track, we help patients work toward meaningful, long-term healing.

Rapid Access When It Matters Most

When patients are in crisis, prolonged waiting can make things worse. GPW Psychiatry offers evaluations within 24 hours when clinically indicated, helping patients access care quickly when support is needed most.

Structured for Real Acuity

Our program provides true wraparound support for patients in early recovery or those needing a higher level of care.

Patients may attend:

Minimum of 3 days per week for structured support in early recovery
Up to 6 days per week for higher-acuity patients needing more intensive care

Full Continuum of Care

GPW Psychiatry supports patients at multiple stages of recovery and treatment.

Our services include:

  • Outpatient detox for appropriate patients

  • Step-down support after inpatient, residential, or detox programs

  • A starting point for those beginning their recovery journey in Raleigh-Durham

Who This Program Is For

This program may be a fit for:

  • Patients recently discharged from inpatient, residential, or detox who need structured step-down care

  • Individuals struggling with relapse or at high risk of relapse

  • Patients who have not improved with traditional once-weekly outpatient therapy

  • Individuals facing moderate to high-acuity depression, anxiety, trauma, or substance use disorders

  • Patients needing rapid stabilization without hospitalization

  • Individuals ready to engage in deeper trauma work, not just symptom control

Clinical Approach

Treatment may include:

  • EMDR and Brainspotting for trauma processing, when appropriate

  • Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy for select, stable patients

  • Full psychiatric medical management

  • Medication-Assisted Treatment when indicated

Multidisciplinary Care

Patients are supported by psychiatrists, therapists, and a clinical team working together, not in silos. Treatment planning is coordinated in real time to support each patient’s needs.

Experience Matters

GPW Psychiatry brings more than 10 years of experience delivering IOP-level care in the community. Our systems are refined, established, and built around real patient needs.

Beyond Traditional Psychiatry

Through our partnership with Regenesis MD, patients may also have access to integrative health optimization designed to address inflammation, metabolic health, and physiologic contributors to mental health and recovery.

When appropriate, advanced options may include IV therapies and regenerative treatments.

Accessible Care

GPW Psychiatry accepts major insurance plans and offers transparent, affordable self-pay options for patients who are out-of-network.

Outcomes That Matter

Our goal is to help reduce hospitalizations and keep patients stable at home. This program is designed for faster stabilization and sustained recovery, not short-term symptom suppression.
